"Uh Oh" - A Painting influenced from an event in 1986

On January 28, 1986, 35 year ago, I painted this painting named "Uh Oh". I was in one of my college art classes when I heard the news that the Challenger Space Shuttle exploded. I left my class early to go watch the news. This event really shook me as well as the nation.

Shortly after I needed to paint a painting for my painting class. I sat down to paint something completely different then this actual painting. My emotions of this event took over. I started painting in a fast expressive manner and the emotions I was feeling came out with broad fast brush strokes and primary colors.

This figures emotions and position depicted exactly what I was feeling at the time and within one hour this image was painted.

I have had this painting ever since and I have never hung it on a wall. A few days ago I posted this on my college Facebook group page (35th anniversary of this event). It struck a cord with many and the post has received over 500 responses and counting as well as many asking if prints are available.

I will be offering prints of Uh Oh, but the main reason for this post is to share my experience with the evolution of this painting. Most paintings are not created from such raw emotion. From that perspective, this painting is very special to me.

"Uh Oh" is named after their last words heard.
